Leominster Golf Club Captains Drive-In 2012

	In-coming 2012 Captain Paul Chapman with Vice Captain Clive Malcolm
In perfect gofling conditions 114 golfers turned out for the traditional Captains Drive-In. In-coming 2012 Captain Paul Chapman made up the first four ball with Club President Brian Hunt, Past Captain Tony Williams and Vice Captain Clive Malcolm. Despite the significance of the occasion the drive was a respectable 162 yards with Kevin Gibbons winning the prize for guessing the correct distance and the proceeds going to Paul's chosen charity The Alzheimer's Society. The competition was a very tight affair with Dave Botwood winning Div 1 with 39 points from Jeremy Lawrence (38) and James Richards (37). In Div 2 the standard was even higher. Graham Gammage winning with an impressive 42 points from Mark Lane (40) pipping George Beattie on count-back. In Div 3 John Callow took the honours with 41 points from Jason Culwick (40) and Peter Gurney in third place with 39. Other prizes saw Bob Holloway nearest the pin on 17 and Shane Jones nearest the pin in two on the 18th. After the golf an excellent meal was provided by our caterers, Dee and Caitlin and following the presentations Paul asked members to raise a glass to Tony Williams in appreciation of his year as Captain. He concluded by asking members to enjoy their golf at Leominster in 2012; play with a smile on their faces and thanked all those who took part in making the day a very successful start to his year as Captain. Captain's Charities

As usual the Club Captain, Ladies Section and the Senior Captain have nominated charities to support in 2012.

Captain Paul Chapman has nominated 'The Alzheimer Society and a charity day will be held on the 14th of September.

Senior's Captain David O'Dowd has chosen St Michaels Hospice. The Senior Section hold eight fun Captains Charity days over the summer, usually on a Monday and you do not have to be in the senior section, over 55 or even male if you wish to enter. Just let David know.

The Ladies Section have chosen 'The Martha Trust' which is a local charity that cares for profoundly disabled young people. The Ladies hold two charity coffee mornings on the13th of March and the 9th of October.

If anyone wishes to donate to any of these charities please see the appropriate captain or Jessica in the office. They are all good causes.

Some memories of 2011

Bragging Rights....
The 2011 bragging rights for best performance in social matches against other clubs was won by the ladies section with a 75% success rate. Seniors were second on 56% with the Men Section lagging a long way behind on 45%.

Club Champions...

Appreciation...

...to 2011 Captain Tony Williams who did a first class job in steering the club through the last year. Tony gained a huge amount of respect for his no nonsense approach and his sense of fair play when dealing with members. Best of luck and good golfing.

Appreciation also to Ian Hamilton who is retiring as Treasurer and Secretary at the end of March and is looking forward to a proper retirement Ian's expertise and know-how has been invaluable in keeping the club afloat during these tough economic times.
