June Medal...3/06/10

A fine day with forty two competitors. Star of the show was Terry Richards winning the top section with a net 65 from Derek Craddock (70). One of only two players shooting under par, the other being serial winner Peter Brundrett taking the bottom section with a net sixty eight. Bernard Hughes won Division two with a net 73.

Six handicap changes. Rewarded for excellence Terry Richards from 14 to 13 and Peter Brundrett from 28 to 27 (subject to review because of a computer cockup). Going the other way Peter Foster from 24 to 25; John Haynes 25 to 26; Tony Guest from 16 to 17 and Mike Herbert from 27 to 28. There were five two's. One each for Jeremy Finney, John Haynes, Bernard Hughes and two for Derek Craddock.

In the Senior Medallist of the Year comp Paul Oatley and Charlie Tune are still in the Gold and Silver positions respectively. The big mover this month is Peter Brundrett moving up 14 places to displace Jeremy Finney and John Hunt from the Bronze position. In the King of the Twos there is no change with Taffy Jones one ahead of Ken Watson on four. (full list under the Monthly Medal button)

May Medal...20/05/10

A beautiful spring day with a good turnout of fifty seniors competing in three sections. Star of the day was Ian Fraser with a net 65 in Division 1 beating Wilf Arrowsmith (67) and Paul Chapman (69) into second and third place. The only three players to be under par. Tony Guest triumphed in Div 2 on count back from Ian Robertson and in Division 3 Paul Oatley won with a net 70 from Phil Cassidy (72).

Only two handicap changes and both for the upwardly mobile. Wilf Arrowsmith from 11 to 10 and Ian Fraser from 12 to 11. There were four two's recorded. One each for Terry Bufton, Ian Fraser, Peter Sandall and Ken Watson.

In the Senior Medallist of the Year Charlie Tune has finally been demoted to the Silver spot with Paul Oatley on 74 points in the Gold position. Jeremy Finney and John Hunt share the bronze position. In the King of the Two's Taffy Jones still leads with four with Ken Watson in close pursuit on three.

Bircher Bowl / Tedd Trophy..

Another good turnout of forty three players for these two competitions. The scoring was good with seven players under par and this was the lowest net average so far this year at 74.64 so the standards are improving.

The low handicappers Bircher Bowl was won by Jimmy Lindsay playing off six with a net 65 beating David O'Dowd (67) and Tony Leney (68). In the high handicappers Tedd Trophy it was another win for Peter Brundrett playing off twenty eight with a net 64 from Alun Davies (68), with Lawson Gardner pipping John Southwell for third place on countback with a net 70.

April Medal...8/4/10

A glorious day and a glorious turn out of sixty seniors to contest the April medal. The undoubted star of the show was David O'Dowd, a late entry in the last group in but won the top section with a net seventy on countback from Terry Webb. He also achieved double two's on the back nine.

In the other two sections Bernard Hughes won Division 2 with a 71 from John Hunt and a rare, but well received victory for Peter Brundrett with a net 71 in Division 3 on count back from the very consistent Paul Oatley.

Mixed Texas Scramble..23/3/10

A very good turn out for our first of three competitions with the ladies section. The weather held on and it did not rain until the last pair had made it back to the clubhouse.

As usual the event was a great success with much friendly banter between the participants. The trio of Carol Gardner, Ray Chambers and Phil Cassidy won the day with 61 and one sixth points.

Weston Cider Cup...11/3/10

A good golfing experience with a decent turnout of forty six seniors thrown together as partners for the day by the luck of the draw. The most successful 'union' was that of Alun Davies and Tony Leney who won by two points from Bernard Hughes and Jimmy Lindsay. Both these have form, Alun won the trophy with Jimmy Linday last year and Tony becomes the first person to be first name on the seniors and men section trophy 'Honours Board' following his success in the Daily Mail Qualifier with his son.

March Medal..4/3/10

An excellent turn out of fifty one seniors competed in the March medal, the first stroke play event of the year. In the top section Jimmy Lindsay, with and impressive net 66 took the honours from Barry Vickery in second place (net 69). The star of the show was Tony Watham in the middle section. In his first senior medal he carded a net 67 despite taking ten on the sixteenth hole. The round included a birdie on the 14th and an eagle on the 15th In the bottom section Guy Thompson with a net sixty nine took the honours on countback from the very reliable Jeremy Finney.

February medal...

At last we have a competition. Twenty six seniors took part in the first medal of the year and the leader board provided no surprises as the same old names are up there. Derek Craddock (37pts) took the honours in the top section followed closely by Terry Webb and Jimmy Lindsay with 35 and 34 points respectively.

The ever consistent Bill Harris (31 pts) won the middle section with Paul Chapman taking second place on countback from Dilwyn James (30 points). Pride of place goes to Charlie Tune (again) with a magnificent 39 points in the bottom section. Paul Oatley was second on 35 points from Guy Thompson with 33.

January medal...18/02/10

The January medal eventually got off the ground and the weather did not let us down, three degrees and plunging with steady snow. However the scoring was extremely good in such adverse conditions and in the top section Taffy Jones stole the show with an impressive 40 points, including a double two', on countback from the equally impressive Ray Chambers. .

In the middle section John Hunt had a very credible 39 points beating Andy Timmer by one shot with Ken Vale third on 37 points. In the bottom section Jeremy Finney took the honours with 36 points from the in form Charlie Tune, 34 points on countback from Paul Oatley

Memorial Cup....20/8/10

Another wonderful golfing day with 41 competitors contesting the Memorial Cup. The golf matched the conditions with the lowest average score this year of 72.47. Emerging victorious from this demonstration of excellence was Terry Bufton with a very impressive net 64. Ian Robertson was in second place (66) and four others with a net sixty seven. Overall 25% of the field played to their handicap or better.

There were five two's. Two of these to Ian Robertson and one each for Jeremy Finney, Ray Chambers and Ken Vale. In the King of the Two's Taffy Jones still leads with four but Ray Chambers has joined Ken Watson and Jimmy Lindsay one behind on three each.

There were nine handicap changes. Climbing the ladder of success are Terry Bufton, 14 to 13; Paul Merriman, 9 to 8; Ian Robertson 16 to 15 and Terry Webb 9 to 8. Sliding down the plughole are Ian Fraser 12 to 13; John Hastie 23 to 24; Derek Langford 18 to 19; Tony Pike 19 to 20 and Ken Watson 5 to 6.

August Medal.....5/8/10

Fifty one seniors competed in the August medal in excellent weather on a well prepared golf course. Only nine players played below their handicap. Dave Botwood won division one with a net 67 from Barry Vickery and Jimmy Lindsay, both 68, and John Hunt won division two (net 67) by one stroke from Kerry Price. In division three Lawson Gardner was victorious on countback from Alan Hooper and Guy Thompson, all with a net 68.

There was a total of eight two's. Four balls each for Rob Arrowsmith, Alun Davies, Jimmy Lindsay, Paul Chapman, Kerry Price, Geoff Wood, Lawson Gardner and Alan Hooper. There were six handicap changes. All heading towards the dizzy heights of success. Lawson Gardner, 23 to 22; Alan Hooper, 24 to 23; John Hunt, 17 to 16; Jimmy Lindsay, 6 to 5; Guy Thompson, 22 to 21 and Barry Vickery 12 to 11.

In the senior medallist of the year Charlie Tune is still in the Gold position with 89 points despite an NR. This month's big mover is John Hunt (81 points) from 10th to the Silver medal position. Paul Oatley is still hanging on to the Bronze position on 74 points but Jimmy Lindsay is closing in just three points behind. In the King of the Two's Taffy Jones still leads with four but is closely pursued by Ken Watson and Jimmy Lindsay who have three each.

David Kent Cup....29/7/10

A good turn out of forty one golfers contested this trophy in fine July weather. The scoring did not exactly match the weather with the exception of Alan Hooper who took the honours and was the only golfer to score under his handicap par with a very creditable net 67. In second place with a net 70 on countback was David O'Dowd from Paul Oatley in third place.

There were three two's recorded. One each for Peter Brundrett; Bernard Hughes and Rob Arrowsmith. The second of the year for the first two but no threat to Taffy Jones who is still leading the 'King of the Two's' with four.

There were seven handicap changes. Savoring the sweet smell of success Alan Hooper from 26 to 24 and Dave Botwood from 12 to 11 despite taking ten on one hole. Descending towards the proverbial compost heap were Ted Amos from 10 to 11; Peter Brundrett from 23 to 24; Richard Cattermole from 7 to 8; Ray Chambers from 6 to 7 and Basil Lewis from 18 to 19.

Seniors Open Pairs

A very successful day with 51 pairs competing representing 27 golf clubs across the West Midlands. The standard was high with very good scoring. Top of the pile were B Green and M Wilde from Burghill Valley with 50 stableford points. Our own Rob Arrowsmith and Brian Faulkner took second place with 48 points. For other scores and prizes please click this link HERE.

Organizer Alun Davies extends his gratitude to the starters Peter Sandall, Phil Samuel, Andy Timmer and Bill Brown. Thanks too to Kaz Rudnicki, Ray Chambers and Phil Cassidy for stepping in at the last moment when some entrants had dropped out and also to John Hastie for help on the reception desk.

Newtown Cup....8/7/10

The wonderful weather continues and was reflected in the performance of the competitors. Forty eight seniors took part and eleven scored better than their handicaps. Star of the show was Ted Amos following up his July medal win with an impressive 41 points on countback from Ken Watson, Kerry Price and Jeremy Finney. (We can assume that Ted has now fully recovered)

There were four two's. One each for Terry Webb, Tom Lloyd, John Hunt and Captain Kaz Rudnicki. There were many handicap changes. Reaching for the heavens are Jeremy Finney 21 to 20; Tom Lloyd 26 to 25; Kerry Price 18 to 17; Guy Thompson 22 to 21 and Ken Watson 6 to 5. Plunging into the abyss of despair are Phil Cassidy 23 to 24; Jimmy Lindsay 5 to 6; John Morris 16 to 17; David O'Dowd 13 to 14; Terry Richards 12 to 13 and Phil Samuel 18 to 19.

July Medal......1/7/10

A good turn out of forty eight seniors battled their way through eighteen holes in glorious golfing weather. No excuses then. Only two players achieved less than par. In the bottom section John Haynes had a net 68 beating Charlie Tune and John Leddington-Hill into second and third place respectively. A welcome return to form following his illness for Ted Amos who won the top section with a net 69 from Jimmy Lindsay and Ray Chambers. In the middle section the ever consistent Billy Harris took the honours with a par round of 70 from Ian Robertson and David O'Dowd.

There was only one 'two' achieved by Richard Cattermole who had not entered the draw so the spoils were drawn by lots for those who had stayed behind. There were eight handicap changes. Paying the price of success Ted Amos 12 to 11; Billy Harris 16 to 15 and John Haynes 26 to 25. To alleviate the pain Peter Foster 24 to 25; Brian Howard 18 to 19; Neville Passey 17 to 18; Ted Price 13 to 14 and Terry Webb 8 to 9.

In the Senior Medallist of the Year Charlie Tune has reclaimed the gold medal position from Paul Oatley in silver This months big mover is Billy Harris who has moved up twelve places into the bronze medal position. No change in the King of the Two's with Taffy Jones still leading with four.

Andy Timmer and Brian Carver were the winners with 45 points, 2nd Alun Davies and John Barnett 43 points on countback from Dave Botwod and Graham Band. 4th Bill Harris and Ernie Dalley with 42 points on countback

Report by Charlie Tune

Away Day at Bewdley Pines......

An excellent turnout of 27 players tried their luck on a course that all but two had never played before. Not a long course but very tricky in places, the first three holes testing the temperament of most of us. There were wide open spaces for opening the shoulders and tricky secluded woody areas with an abundance of trees and gorse that made demands on a wide range of golfing skills.

Most of us were equal to the occasion in providing some impressive scores, none more so than Peter Brundrett who took the day with a blistering 44 points. Peter's fourth victory since the April medal. Prizes for the first six who were Alan Hooper, Bernard Hughes, David O'Dowd, Bob Crump and Bill Harris.

In the spot prizes Captain Kaz Rudnicki was nearest the pin in two on the second, David O'Dowd nearest the pin on the par three 14th and Bernard Hughes with the longest drive. There were two two's recorded by Jeremy Finney and David O'Dowd.

The meal was excellent and the day was deemed to have been a success. Captain Kaz Rudnicki wishes to extend his appreciation to all those that attended and contributed to the occasion.
